The SCA’s Board of Directors approved a revised version of the Youth Combat handbook at their quarterly meeting this weekend, and it’s now available online.
While I encourage all marshals to occasionally review the rules from start to finish, this update helpfully includes a list of changes on the second page so you can focus on the new items.
The good news is that most of the changes are merely clarifications, or are places where the Society rules are being changed to more closely match our current practices here in the East, and will not have any impact on how your run your practices or events.
Please do note the changes to sex-specific armor requirements: testicles must be protected by a rigid cup, other groin protection (padded skirt or equivalent) and chest protection is recommended but not required. These changes do not override the provisions set forth in our kingdom rules but will be reflected in our next revision.
We look forward to updating the East Kingdom rulebook to reflect these changes in the coming months.
